Boston Symphony members Haldan Martinson, violin, and Danny Kim, viola, join artists Ronald Lowry, cello, and Lois Shapiro, piano, in a program of two masterpiece piano quartets, the Fauré, Piano Quartet No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 15 and the Brahms, Piano Quartet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 26. The program begins with Ernst von Dohnányi's Serenade for String Trio, Op.10, one of the most brilliant and charming works for string trio. Fauré's early work is both breathtakingly romantic and foreshadows his journey towards impressionism. Brahms' masterpiece is both poetic and powerful, solidly in the Germanic tradition. All three works are absolute delights.
